Bryan Slaton, a Texas State Representative, announced on Monday that he will be filing a bill to ban drag shows in the presence of minors in the state of Texas.
Slaton posted the announcement on Twitter saying “Drag shows are no place for a child.”
The bill comes on the heels of weekend drag shows that subjected children to inappropriate sexual content by adults, some of which encouraged children to jump on stage and dance for money. Several videos and news stories also circulated over the weekend showing protesters at the ‘kid friendly’ drag shows – at least one of those drag shows happened at a bar in Dallas, Texas.
In the twee Slaton said,
“I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either. I will be filing legislation to address this issue in the new [Texas Legislature.]”

Representative Slaton also issued the following statement:
The Texas legislature passed a bill to protect women in sports by banning biological males from competing on girls sports teams, making Texas the 10th state to enact such legislation.
In addition, Governor Greg Abbott issued a directive that calls for abuse investigations into the use of gender-affirming care for transgender children.
