Kevin McCarthy Slammed After Audio Proves He Lied “I Will Recommend Trump Resigns”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy getting slammed today by fellow Republicans and Democrats alike after an audio tape released proves that he was working with Liz Cheney and lied about saying was going to try to get President Donald Trump to resign.

The conversation between Cheney and McCarthy happened during a House Republican Leadership call just days after the January 6th protest at the Capitol.

In the tape that was obtained by the New York times then aired last night by the mainstream media, McCarthy is heard talking about whether or not he thinks the impeachment will pass and that it was time for Trump to go,

“My gut tells me no. I am seriously thinking about having that conversation with him tonight,” McCarthy told Cheney,  “The only discussion I would have with him is I think this [impeachment] will pass, and it would be my recommendation that he should resign. I mean, that would be my take, but I don’t think he would take it. But I don’t know. I think it will pass and it would be my recommendation he should resign.”

The audio proves that McCarthy lied when he denied he ever told colleagues about wanting Trump to Resign in the face of possible impeachment.

In fact, McCarthy posted a statement on Twitter, after the New York Times wrote their article but before the audio was released ,saying that the reporting was “totally false and wrong.” The congressman adding that the “corporate media is obsessed with doing everything it can to further the liberal agenda” and that “the past year and a half have proven that our country was better off when President Trump was in the White House.”

According to The Times article, McCarthy also told other Republican leaders the he wanted  Social Media Giants to take away  accounts from party lawmakers who supported Trump’s assertation that their was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election.

McCarthy also denied those claims in a statement saying the reporting “totally false and wrong.”

McCarthy has been receiving very public backlash for the comments and the denial of the comments with Congressman Matt Gaetz out of Florida saying,

“While I was rallying in Wyoming against Liz Cheney, Kevin McCarthy was defending Liz Cheney among House Republicans…While Liz Cheney was secretly recording Kevin McCarthy for the New York Times,” Gaetz said. “@GOPLeader — you should have trusted my instincts, not your own.”

McCarthy publicly flip-flopped Trump about the Capitol protest first saying the resident was to blame,  but then days later snuggled up with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Florida for a photo-op.

McCarthy’s chance at becoming the House Speaker, if and when the Republicans take control during the midterms may be in jeopardy, and all eyes are now focused on Donald Trump and his response.

The Washington Post is reporting that  McCarthy and Trump have spoken about the audio tape, and that the president is happy the GOP Leader did not ask him to resign.
