A panel of two commissioners with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation recommended parole for Frederick Newhall Woods, a man who kidnapped 26 children and buried them alive.
Frederick Newhall Woods along with two other men hijacked a school bus at gunpoint in 1976. They took the children and the driver of the bus, put them in an underground truck trailer and buried them alive.
The kidnappers reportedly wanted $5 million but couldn’t complete their demand. After about 16 Hours the children and the driver were able to escape by digging their way out, however they reported having psychological damage after the incident.
This is the 18th time that Woods has applied for parole.
