An Old Dominion University basketball player suffered what appeared to be a cardiac arrest on Saturday during the teams game against Georgia Southern.
It happened during the first half of the game when sophomore Dominion guard Imo Essien suddenly fell to the ground (no contact made) clutched his chest and rolled on his back. This latest incident happened just days after Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field while his team was playing the Cincinnati Bengals. The team saying Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.
According to local media, Essien “had to be tended to by training staff from both ODU and Georgia Southern” In the video that was posted online, Essien can be seen playing defense when he collapses,

A statement from Old Dominion said, “Imo Essien was evaluated by ODU Athletic Training staff along with GA Southern medical staff. He was responsive throughout and was able to sit with the team for the duration of the game and drive home with the team. He is in good spirits and will be working with the ODU Sports Medicine Staff when they return to Norfolk.”
