#new Florida Democrat Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz faces the end of her 20-year congressional seat after maps were redrawn, turning her district into a Republican leaning seat that favors President Trump by 9 points.
Her district has been carved up and redistributed between four other districts in the new map signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Wasserman Schultz held a news conference announcing she will run for a 12th term but refusing to say in which new district.
The Democratic Black Caucus publicly begged her not to run in Florida’s 20th District, saying it would hurt Black representation.
Here are some fast facts for you on how Wasserman Schultz has actively worked against President Trump:
She worked to shut down the Everglades illegal migrant criminal Detention Center, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz”
On July 17, of last year, Wasserman Schultz introduced the “No Cages in the Everglades Act” shutting down the facility
The bill bans any federal funds from DHS or ICE to build, reimburse, or operate any detention facility in or next to the Everglades.
It also forces an Inspector General investigation into costs, conditions, environmental damage, and tribal lands impacts.
Wassernan saying, “Trump and Ron DeSantis have exploited legal ambiguity around this Everglades internment camp to avoid any scrutiny of abuses there.”
She has repeatedly called it “Trump’s so-called ‘Alligator Alcatraz’” and a “modern-day immigrant internment camp” and “hell-on-Earth.”
She claimed the facility violated humane standards and environmental laws even though it is state-run and Florida argues it is exempt from federal rules.
She’s called President Trump “treasonous”
She claimed “To overturn the 2020 presidential election, Trump incited the violent assault on Congress, a treasonous betrayal of our nation.”
She claimed Donald Trump is a threat to democracy… and that the biggest threat right now that Americans are facing is Donald Trump… Because he has single-handedly begun to dismantle our democracy.
