Afghan Military Father Who Died In ICE Custody, Actually A “Non-Military Criminal Who Died In Hospital” DHS Says

Shortly after a story was published by mainstream media outlets about Mohammad Nazeer Pak-tia-wal, DHS issued a response.

According to MSM, Pa-tia-wal was a **heroic** veteran who served alongside US forces in Afghanistan.

He fled from the Taliban and started a family only to be detained by ICE, then died in ICE custody, right after he was detained.

However, DHS says that is not true.

Pak-tia-wal, they say, came into the country during Biden’s hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan where tens of thousands of Afghans were brought into the country by the Biden administration without thorough vetting.

DHS says he was granted humanitarian parole, but he did not have record of any military service, and there was no evidence that he ever served alongside US forces.

His parole expired in 2025 (making him illegal) and he had been previously arrested for fraud and theft.

ICE arrested him during a targeted operation outside of his Dallas area home.

Once in ICE custody, DHS says he was given immediate medical attention when he arrived at intake at the Dallas Field Office.

DHS says He did not report any previous health issues but did say he was short of breath and having chest pain during the routine screening.

He was immediately taken to the hospital by EMS.

The following day his condition got worse and hospital staff performed CPR along with other resuscitation efforts. He was pronounced dead by the attending physician at about 9am. ****

Statement from DHS:

“Mohammad Nazeer Paktiawal, a criminal illegal alien, entered the U.S. under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Refuge in August 2021 and provided NO RECORD of military service. His criminal history includes arrests for fraudulent use of food stamps and theft. His parole expired on August 20, 2025.”

“ICE arrested him on March 13, 2026. During intake at the Dallas Field Office, he complained of shortness of breath and chest pain and was IMMEDIATELY transported by EMS to Parkland Hospital.”

“After treatment, his condition worsened the next day, and hospital medical staff initiated CPR. At approximately 9:10 a.m. CDT, a physician pronounced him deceased following multiple resuscitation efforts.”

“No one in ICE custody is denied access to medical care. ICE provides comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health services, including access to appointments and 24-hour emergency care, from the moment an alien enters custody.”
