The Border Patrol Chief in the El Paso Sector, Gloria Chaves is sending out a warning to agents, telling them to ‘watch their backs.’
The chief posted the warning to social media with pictures of a recent attack on border patrol agents saying that Mexican cartels are watching border operations everyday, ‘watch your 6′ she said.
The picture she used in the post came from an assault that happened on March 12th- when an agent stopped his vehicle to chase a group of illegal migrants that had crossed the border. At that point a person came across the border, picked up a large rock and threw it towards the agents vehicle breaking the windshield. The person then ran back into Mexico.
Assaults’ against CBP officers and agents are on the rise, in the last five months nearly 200 assaults have happened – which is 30% more than the same time period last year.
Assaults include physical attacks, and attacks with guns, knives and rocks.
