Chuck Schumer, the Democrat Senate Minority Leader is warning that the SAVE Act, a GOP-backed bill that will beef up election integrity by requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration, could strip “voting rights” from tens of millions of people.
Critics say that Schumer is essentially admitting that there are 20 million illegal migrants on the voter rolls, who are voting in elections.
However, Schumer insists the bill targets legitimate citizens
“Here are just some of the nasty reasons the SAVE Act is as extreme as it gets. Number one: the SAVE Act includes such extreme voter registration requirements that if enacted could disenfranchise 21 million American citizens. “
“21 million—that is more than 10%, significantly more than 10%, of the people who vote. Number two: millions of American citizens—millions—don’t have access to the paperwork that SAVE would require and would be in danger of getting shut out of our democracy.”
Requirements for the SAVE Act include one of the following documents to register
A REAL ID that indicates the applicant is a U.S. citizen
A valid US Passport.
A U.S. military ID card combined with a military record of service showing the applicant was born in the US…OR
A government-issued photo ID (federal, state, or tribal) showing the applicant was born in the United States.
In some cases, another government-issued photo ID paired with a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or other form showing U.S. citizenship or birthplace.
Schumer adding,
“I want to be very clear, the SAVE act is dead on arrival in the Senate, every single democrat will vote against it”
“If you’re one of the tens of millions of US citizens who does not have access to your birth certificate, or if you’re one of the 50% of Americans who don’t have a passport, the SAVE Act could make it impossible for you to participate in elections.”
