The father of the Highland Park mass shooting suspect Robert Crimo Jr. is saying that he talked to his son just one day before about a mass shooting that happened in Denmark.
Crimo Jr. told the Post that his son, Robert E. Crimo III said the man who shot and killed three people at a mall outside Copenhagen was an ‘idiot’
“I talked to him 13 hours before [Monday’s mass shooting]. That’s why I guess I’m in such shock. … Like, did he have a psychiatric break or something? He goes, ‘Yeah, that guy is an idiot.’ That’s what he said,” adding that “People like that [shoot people in mass} to amp up the people that want to ban all guns.”
Crimo Jr. previously ran for Mayor in Highland Park and said he sponsored Crimo III’s application to obtain a gun, this happening just months after police called Crimo III a “clear and present danger” for threatening to kill his relatives in 2019.
However, Crimo Jr. shrugged off the incident as a “childish outburst” and said the sword, dagger and 15 knives that authorities temporarily confiscated were “just a collection,” according to the Post.
Even though Crimo Jr. and his estranged wife have been pegged by people who knew them and critics alike for being ‘problem parents’ Crimo Jr. says that he is not to blame,
“They make me like I groomed him to do all this. I’ve been here my whole life, and I’m gonna stay here, hold my head up high, because I didn’t do anything wrong.”
He also said that he will continue to attend all of his son’s court hearings to support him, however, he believes his son should spend a very long time in prison.
Robert E. Crimo III appeared in court on Wednesday for the shooting that took place at a Fourth of July parade in the suburb of Chicago, killing seven and injuring dozens more.
According to a prosecutor, Crimo III confessed to police that he fired on the crowd.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ben Dillon said police found the shells of 83 bullets and three ammunition magazines on the rooftop that he fired from.
An Illinois judge ordered that the suspected gunman be held without bail.
