Eric Swalwell just announced that he plans to target, investigate and potentially prosecute any private citizen who is working with President Donald Trump if the Democrats win in 2026.
Critics are now saying that Swalwell’s comments are an example of how the left is openly plotting to weaponize the federal government against political opponents and their supporters… again.
Swalwell’s remarks come after former FBI Director James Comey was indicted on charges of lying to Congress and obstruction of justice.
The vocal Trump critic said the DOJ’s actions were “politically motivated” saying,
“We’re going into the majority a year from now. We will bring oversight… We will subpoena the Department of Justice, but also private actors who’ve done these drug deals with the administration”
He goes on to say,
“College campuses, entertainment companies, law firms ….. and anyone else should know accountability is coming.”
He finishes by saying,
“I hope this deters people from doing more of these deals for the president!”
Many are now pointing out that this is the same representative who had an affair with a Chinese spy -Christine Fang (AKA Fang Fang), but now claims to be the “arbiter of accountability” accusing him of trying to intimidate private citizens and business owners so they won’t engage with a duly elected president.
Conservatives see this as a direct assault on the First Amendment and free enterprise, echoing the left’s past weaponization of investigations against figures like Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Catholic churches and parents protesting school boards.
House GOP leaders condemned the rhetoric and promised to protect people from what they called a “revenge tour.”
