California Governor Gavin Newsom is reportedly planning to cut $10 million from the DOJ’s Division of Law Enforcement, $97 million from trial court operations and more than $80 million from the state’s prison system.
The Division of Law Enforcement investigates serious stuff like drug trafficking, gang activity, and fraud.
The $80 million reduction from state prisons includes eliminating about 4,600 beds across 13 facilities, while also planning to close a number of state prisons by 2026, saving about $150 million each year.
The move was sparked after the state had a surplus of 15,000 prison beds – because of the criminal justice reforms that have been taking place over the years.
Newsom forced to make cuts because his state is running a $12 billion deficit
Meanwhile the state will continue to give tens of million to Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights – CHIRLA – which is allegedly one of the groups behind the LA Riots.
Also, in the budget – Medi-Cal spending of about $188.1 billion – which gives free healthcare to illegal migrants
