Newsom’s California Refuses To Cancel 300,000 Ineligible Names From Voter Rolls

Governor Gavin Newsom’s California is refusing to cancel the registration of more than 300,000 ineligible voters as requested

California’s Secretary of State rejected a formal request to cancel the registrations that were flagged.

The request stemmed from a detailed audit by the Election Integrity Project California (EIPCa), – which is a nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding electoral processes.

EIPCa’s analysis found that the number of people registered, is significantly higher than the number of citizens that are eligible to vote.

EIPCa says this points to California failing to conduct routine maintenance of voter rolls – a core responsibility under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) of 1993, which mandates the removal of ineligible names from the voter rolls.

Groups like Judicial Watch, have pressed California to follow NVRA standards, saying that past settlements led to the purge of 1.5 million inactive registrations in 2019.

Yet, officials claim that mass cancellations could hurt legitimate voters – a claim critics say falls flat in a state that already has an expansive mail-in voting system.

The audit pinpointed the 300,000 registrations in targeted counties where the number of active voters outnumbers eligible adults by 37,000 in Sacramento County alone—based on cross-referenced census and DMV data.
