New records uncovered this week reveal that a nonprofit founded by Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams paid more than $20.2 million to a law firm run by a close friend.
The payments, made by Fair Fight Action between 2020 and 2023, went to Lawrence & Bundy, a firm led by Allegra Lawrence-Hardy, who also helped Abrams set up two private businesses.
Allegra Lawrence-Hardy, the firm’s lead partner, has deep ties to Abrams . Along with setting up those private businesses, she served as Abrams’ campaign chair during her failed 2018 gubernatorial run.
She left Lawrence & Bundy just before the records came to light.
The $20.2 million dollars is substantial for a nonprofit, especially one that reported $27 million in total expenses in 2022.
Another non-profit connected to Abrams has also been raising questions after Power Forward Communities received a $2 billion grant from the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in April 2024, even though the organization had only generated $100 in revenue since its inception.
