A man has been charged with attempted murder as a hate crime in New York after officials say he hit a woman in the head 125 times.
42 year old Tammel Esco of Yonkers New York- According to officials, he’s also being charged with assault as a hate crime.
A security video of the assault shows a 67-year-old woman unlocking the door to an apartment building when a man comes up behind her and punches her in the head – the force of the blow knocks the woman to the ground. The man then bends down and repeatedly pummels her. After hitting her 125 times he kicks her, spits on her then walks away.
Officials say that the man called her an anti-Asian slur directly before the attack.
The woman suffered from broken bones in her face and bleeding on the brain. She was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
Esco is being held with out bail. Yonkers police say He has more than a dozen previous arrests, half of them on felony charges.
