The crime in Los Angeles has gotten so bad that street gangs are now targeting wealthy areas of LA and attacking residents in broad daylight
In a recent case gang members followed a woman who had just left the Jewelry district in Downtown LA, smashed out her car window then ran her over when she tried to run.
According to Capt. Jonathan Tippet, who heads the Departments “follow-home robbery” task force at least 17 gangs, most of them based in South Los Angeles, have been committing the robberies. Those gangs he said, sometimes use spotters to target people who appear to be wealthy, are wearing expensive items or driving expensive cars.
“We have seen countless individuals traumatized by having a gun pointed at them,” Tippet said. “Many others are dealing with the trauma and injuries from being tackled, kicked, beaten, punched and are pistol-whipped to the head.”
Police say there were 165 robberies last year and 56 so far this year. Thirteen victims were shot, including two people who died. Fifty robberies
took place in the both the LAPD’s Hollywood Division and the Wilshire Division.
police say, because of the soft on crime laws in LA, the criminals are released back on the street almost immediately after being arrested.
