#new As a college student is m*rdered by an illegal, a career criminal k*lls a Firefighter, & teen takeovers plague Chicago, Mayor Johnson is posting jokes about ICE snow plows and Greek Independence Day
There have been at least three major tragedies in Chicago in one week’s time, as the windy city is being plagued by violent crime under democratic leadership – according to official crime statistics.
A Loyola college student was m*rdered by an illegal migrant, a career criminal deliberately set a fire that k*lled a firefighter whose wife was days away from having his baby, and residents in downtown were terrorized by a ‘chaotic teen takeover’
However, Mayor Brandon Johnson, who has a 24-hour security detail, is using his time mocking ICE, rather than addressing the crime in his city.
Eighteen-year-old Sheridan Gorman was shot in the back of the head on March 19 while walking with friends near the lakefront to view the Northern Lights.
Police say Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old illegal migrant from Venezuela who came into the country during the Biden administration, and was released into the interior, shot Sheridan.
Gorman’s mother, Jessica , described her family as “beyond shattered” and vowed from their New York home to get justice for sheridan
Her body was returned to Yorktown, escorted by local law enforcement, as the family demanded accountability.
Meanwhile Governor JB Pritzker’s video of him walking in the area that Sheridan was m*rdered – showing everyone how safe it is – went viral on social media.
Neither Johnson or Pritzker have made any public statement acknowledging or condemning her M*rder and they have not reached out to her family.
This as a F=fourth generation firefighter and EMT , Michael Altman, 32, died on March 17 while battling a fire that was deliberately set by a career criminal.
He fell through a collapsing floor into a burning basement, and suffered third-degree burns over 90% of his body.
Prosecutors charged 27-year-old Sheaves Slate with first-degree m*rder and arson.
Slate is a repeat offender, was allegedly squatting in the building and set the fire after an argument with people who lived there.
Altman leaves behind a young son and his pregnant wife, Nora, who just went into labor.
She had to deliver their second child without her husband at her side.
Critics point to the soft on crime policies in Illinois.
And teens running wild in the streets of downtown continue to t*rrorize residents as they run through the area jumping on cars, assaulting people, using mace and tasers on people passing by and damaging property.
Locals call the gang of teens out of control and dangerous
Many are now blaming Johnson, and Pritzker for what they call a pattern of downplaying crime and pro crime, pro illegal policies.
They say the recent snowplow contest mocking ICE, their focus on March madness and on ‘priorities’ like e-scooter regulations show they do not care about safety or the residents in Chicago.
Republicans on the other hand point to Chicago’s sanctuary policies, progressive criminal justice reforms and refusal to enact proactive policing as the problem.
Crime stats for Chicago:
There have been 2,215 m*rders in Chicago since Johnson took office in May 2023.
That’s an average of 738 m*rders a year, or 2 m*rders every day.
Chicago racked up the most m*rders of any U.S. city for the 13th straight year in 2024 – and is on pace to do the same thing in 2025 – outpacing every other major metropolitan city despite its size.
Chicago has a per capita m*rder rate of 21.7 per 100,000 residents in recent years, which is 5 times the national average (which is around 4.0 per 100,000 in 2025)
Parts of the South and West Sides see young men m*rdered at rates higher than troop fatalities in Iraq or Afghanistan combat zones.
This makes Chicago far deadlier per person than New York City or Los Angeles
The city logs thousands of shootings, robberies, and aggravated batteries each year.
Nationwide, homicides plunged in 2025, but law enforcement credits President Trump-era border enforcement and policing shifts, not local “root causes”
