The left-leaning Washington Post has announced they will be executing massive layoffs come the new year after losing nearly half a billion subscribers in 2022, and the paper does not believe it will be profitable.
In a town hall held Wednesday, Publisher Fred Ryan made the announcement saying the layoffs will happen in the first quarter of 2023. However, Ryan did not specify how many employees will be terminated.
Employees in the town hall grew upset when Ryan said he did not want the Town Hall to be a ‘grievance session’ and began walking out of the room, at which point one staff member shouted,
“You talked about the positions getting eliminated. What are you going to do to protect people’s jobs? Are they going to be treated like the magazine staffers were?”
To which Ryan said, “We’ll have more information as we move forward,”
Staff members appeared angry and one woman even called him disrespectful.
WaPo previously announced that their Sunday magazine was folding with the last issue set to hit the stands on Christmas day.
The Washington Post often comes under fire for being a liberal mouthpiece for the Democrat Party
