Michelle Obama’s former Chief of Staff was revealed to be the woman who hired an illegal migrant to be the Superintendent of Des Moines public schools
Jackie Norris, a longtime Democratic operative who served as Michelle Obama’s Chief of Staff back in 2009, has been the Chair of the Des Moines Public Schools Board since her election in 2021.
Norris was a key player in Barack Obama’s 2008 Iowa campaign and even stepped down from her White House role to push national service programs under the administration.
Under Norris’s watch, the school board hired Ian Roberts—an illegal migrant from Guyanna as Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools in July 2023, following what they called a “nationwide search.”
Public records show Roberts had prior weapons charges, and when ICE caught up to him on September 26, during a traffic stop, he bolted from his vehicle—leaving behind a loaded handgun.
He was arrested and will be deported.
