Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed HB965 into law.

The bill commits Virginia to the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC), which is a plan pushed by Democrats to get around the Electoral College, once states totaling 270 electoral votes join.

Virginia brings the compact to 222 electoral votes across 18 jurisdictions.

Critics, including Republican lawmakers and conservative leaders, slammed the move as a direct assault on Virginia voters and a violation of the Constitution.

Trent England of Save Our States saying,

“This is a grave mistake that threatens to disenfranchise Virginia voters,”

Once the compact is triggered, Virginia’s electors have to ignore the state’s own results and award every vote to whichever candidate racks up the most ballots nationwide.
