Newsom Signs Law Restricting Law Enforcement Access To Ballots, Voter Rolls & Polling Places

#new Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law restricting law enforcement access to ballots, voter rolls, and polling places days before the June 2 statewide primary election.

“California will not allow our elections to be commandeered by political intimidation, abuse of power, or chaotic interference from extremists chasing conspiracy theories.”

The bill takes effect immediately with an urgency clause.

It prohibits unauthorized seizure of voted ballots from election officials, requires court orders for law enforcement to access voter lists or voting machines, and tightens rules on armed personnel or officers at polling locations.

Meaning, Democrats don’t want ICE at polling places (it will deter illegal migrants from voting), they don’t want law enforcement to be able to investigate fraud, and they want law enforcement to get permission from a liberal California judge to be able access voter lists or machines

Official details of the new law:

It criminalizes knowingly taking packages containing voted ballots from county election officials’ custody, with penalties including fines and up to three years in jail.

This directly targets actions like Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco’s earlier 2026 seizure of over 600,000 ballots during a fraud investigation into a local election.

Law enforcement, including federal agents, cannot access, modify, or seize voter rolls, lists, or certified voting technology without a court order tied to specific California election law violations – so no checking if illegals are on the voter rolls.

Limits peace officers (police) or armed personnel (ICE) from being stationed at or near polling places without authorization from elections officials.

The Attorney General or Secretary of State can object to and override such authorizations.

Peace officers are barred from interfering with election administration except in urgent public safety threats.

Requires the California DOJ to issue guidance to election officials on handling law enforcement requests.

State officials can override local decisions

California does not require photo ID, and Newsom signed a 2024 law banning localities from imposing their own voter ID rules.

So the question becomes….Does this prove Democrats are actively cheating and rigging elections in the state?
