#new Socialist Zohran Mamdani is getting major backlash for putting his own constituents in danger by publishing the names and addresses of NYC property owners who will be forced to pay the new pied-à-terre tax
Critics say the move is reckless and dangerous, especially when the “violent left” already hate people with money and feel they should be punished for their success. The list, uploaded for the public, covers properties Zohran claims may qualify as a second home valued at over $1 million – meaning some of these people who were just doxxed may not even meet the requirements of the tax.
This comes days after Mamdani posted a ‘cheeky’ warning to second-home owners to “check your mailbox” because notification letters were going out.
City Council Minority Leader David Carr (R-Staten Island), whose own home appears on the list, called it “a reckless and foolish move, especially considering there are potentially thousands of properties on this list that do not qualify as second homes or whose owners will successfully dispute their inclusion.”
Carr added that the mayor is “tanking the luxury home market in NYC and sending millions of dollars in real estate business to other states,” adding that Mamdani would be a “shoo-in for ‘Realtor of the Year’ in Texas and Florida.”
Steven Fulop, president and CEO of the Partnership for NYC, labeled it “a mistake, and a dangerous precedent.” He said:
“Publishing names and addresses singles out people who have done nothing wrong, at a moment when the far-left already treats success itself as something to be punished.”
“Most of the people on that list aren’t billionaires by any stretch – they’re people that believed in NYC, worked hard and bought a second home. All this does is make people feel less safe in their own city, and less welcome in it.”
More than 960,000 homes and people are listed as potentially subject to the tax – despite official projections saying the tax would hit about 31,000 homes.
The database includes high-profile names like director Woody Allen, former Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and actress Cynthia Nixon, a Mamdani supporter whose New York City home appears on it.
It also lists Councilwoman Gale Brewer’s Upper West Side brownstone.
Brewer said she has lived there “365 days a year since 1994” and that “this whole list must be messed up.”
Middle-class streets appear as well, with dozens of homes that average from the mid-$500,000s to the low $800,000s on the list.
The Breezy Point Shopping Center in Rockaway, Queens—a commercial outdoor mall—also shows up.
Republicans point out this is just another example of the disaster of Zohran Mamdani.
