Republican Mayra Flores Beating Democrat Challenger In Deep Blue Texas District

U.S. Congressional Candidate Mayra Flores has taken the lead against her Democrat opponent in the special election for Texas’ 34th district and may make history as the first Republican to flip the traditionally blue district to red.

According to a poll conducted by Ragnar Research, Flores has a 5 point lead over Democrat Dan Sánchez. The poll found that Flores has 24%, Sánchez sits at 19% and 41% of voters are still undecided.

Myra aims to fill the seat vacated by former Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela in South Texas and experts believe she has a strong shot at making that happen as 55% of voters in the district do not approve of Biden’s job as president.

According to her website, Flores is Pro-God, Pro-Life and Pro-Family. She is also the daughter of migrant workers who ‘gave her the greatest ‘gift of becoming a proud, naturalized American Citizen.’

Flores has been endorsed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott who is calling on everyone to head to the polls during the special election and vote for Flores,

“Mayra Flores was raised with strong conservative values and was taught to put God and family first. She has tirelessly worked building a strong relationship with her community and understands the needs of everyone within it. Mayra supports a secure border, the Second Amendment, and is pro-life. With her help, we will turn the Rio Grande Valley red. I urge everyone in Congressional District 34 to join me in supporting Mayra Flores for Congress for this critical special election.”

The special election will take place June 14.
