A teacher in Florida has been fired for reportedly talking about her sexual orientation with middle school students then asking them to draw pictures of their own sexual orientations.
However, Trafalgar Middle School said the teacher was fired for deviating from the state’s mandated curriculum.
The first year teacher said that she was asked by her students about her sexuality, that’s when she told them she was pansexual which means she is attracted to all categories of people, no matter their sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
“A discussion happened in class and because of that, now I’m fired,” said Casey Scott, a now-former teacher for the Lee County School District.
But School officials say she did not follow the state-mandated curriculum by talking about topic that are non-academic with students adding that her sexual orientation is not relevant for a middle school classroom setting.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a strong stance when it comes to keeping schools free from indoctrination, Critical Race Theory and making sure that parents are involved in their children’s education. He recently signed the “Parental Rights in Education” into law which states kids in Kindergarten through 3rd grade cannot be instructed on gender ideology and sexual orientation.
Per the bill: “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”
According to DeSantis: “Parents have every right to be informed about services offered to their child at school, and should be protected from schools using classroom instruction to sexualize their kids as young as 5 years old.”
