Former Border Patrol Agent Gil Maza is speaking out after the Supreme Court sided with the Biden Administration, ruling on Thursday to end the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy that was enacted under the Trump Administration.
While ending the policy is sure to exacerbate an already crisis-level situation, Maza tells Aguayo News that Border Agents have already been desperately struggling to keep up with the record-setting flood of illegal migrants that have crossed the border since Biden took office,
“The Agents and officers working the borders and ports of entry have been completely inundated, overwhelmed, and stretched to the breaking point. They are beyond demoralized with the disastrous open border policies of this administration.”
The ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy was enacted in January 2019. Under the policy about 70,000 illegal migrants waited south of the border while their immigration hearings were processed.
When Biden took office in January of 2021 he immediately started reversing all the immigration policies put in place by Trump and in February, 25,000 illegal migrants (that were waiting in Mexico) were allowed entry into the United States.
Then, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued a memo in June 2021 formally terminating the policy. One of the many steps, according to experts, that has encouraged and fueled the massive, record-setting influx of illegal migrants arriving at the southern border.
In August a Federal Judged ordered Biden to reinstate the policy. Biden petitioned the Supreme Court to block the ruling but SCOTUS declined to do so. The Biden Administration said they would abide by the ruling which they semi-started to in December sending back only about 200 illegal migrants since that time.
Maza, a 25-year veteran of the force, says that the ruling from the High Court won’t make much of an impact for the already exhausted and overworked border agents as the Biden Administration never really enforced the policy in the first place,
“The ruling to reverse the “Remain in Mexico” policy doesn’t make one bit of difference in the catastrophic flood of illegals that continue to overwhelm our resources and pour into the country at all-time record breaking numbers because the current administration has been extremely reluctant to use the policy if at all.”
Maza also referenced Title 42 – the public health order that immigration advocates are now trying to rescind – saying that since Biden took office it’s rarely been used and when it has been applied, it is mostly to Mexican citizens as opposed to those from other countries.
Since Biden took office 3,271,585 illegal migrants have crossed the southern border with about 50% of those illegals allowed entry into the United States.
According to Maza, the morale of border agents is at an all time low as most are working 6 day work weeks, spend most of their time processing illegal migrants rather than securing the border, do not feel supported by their Chiefs or the Biden administration and are frustrated with the open border policies that allow dangerous criminals to sneak past border agents and put the safety of American citizens at risk.
Maza, who runs the Facebook Page Old Patrol HQ, has inadvertently become the trusted voice of border agents across the nation as they send him hundreds of pictures, messages and documents on a daily basis revealing what is really happening behind the scenes on the border. He speaks for those who have been instructed not to speak.
