#News Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński said that anyone trying to cross the Belarus border will be shot de*d, and people should simply stay away from the border.
#Critics are now saying countries like France, Italy, and the United States should implement the same protocol.
Tarczyński said that after a Polish soldier was klled by a Mslim migrant, parliament changed the law so forces can use live rounds:
#France “If you are trying to cross a border and harm any of our soldiers, you will be ded. … Do not come to the Polish border because you will be ded. Shot ded.”
On May 28, 2024, 21-year-old soldier Mateusz Sitek was stabbed in the chest through a gap in the steel border barrier by a migrant while trying to block a breach.
He died on June 6, 2024.
Polish authorities later identified the suspect as a Mslim Moroccan citizen, Mohamed Addamrou, believed to be in Belarus; an extradition request went unanswered. In response, the Sejm passed legislation in July 2024 (overwhelmingly supported) allowing soldiers, border guards, and police to use firearms during peacetime operations defending the border.
Officers will be protected from any punishment when using weapons to stop migrants from coming across the border in unlawful attacks threatening life, health, or freedom, or when countering actions aimed at the border’s inviolability – even if normal rules of engagement are breached.
Basically, shoot to protect the border by any means in any circumstances, and you will not be punished.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government (which includes more liberal elements) backed the measures after the klling.
Human rights groups criticized the law as risking excessive force, but it passed with broad parliamentary support. Critics say human rights groups are nothing more than criminal rights groups in today’s world.
