Once prominent South Carolina Attorney Alex Murdaugh will reportedly face charges in the 2021 shooting deaths of his wife and his son.
The legal heir is expected to be indicted this week in the double slaying, according to a pair of sources. In addition, sources also said that investigators with the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) visited family members Tuesday morning to both inform and prepare them for the upcoming charges.
It is not clear if the indictment will come from the state grand jury or a Colleton county grand jury. The state grand jury has already issued numerous indictments against Murdaugh for financial crimes however murder indictments are usually issued in the county where the crime occurred.
SLED has been investigating the shooting deaths of 52-year-old Maggie Murdaugh and her son 22-year-old Paul for 13 months but have not released many details. Maggie was shot with an assault rifle while Paul was killed with a shotgun.
Murdaugh – who called 911 when he found his wife and son – is being held in the Richland County jail on a $7 million bond for charges related to finances.
