A 14-year-old has died after being shot by his 17-year-old brother Monday night in Dayton Ohio after reportedly taking pictures for social media.
Dayton police Maj. Brian Johns confirmed the teen’s death in a news conference held on Tuesday,
“It’s another tragedy. We have a 14-year-old male who was shot in the head and unfortunately passed away from the gunshot wound,” Johns added, “We’ll see social media photographs where young folks, they’re brandishing firearms, money and posting things like that. And we believe so far from evidence that was recovered that was occurring here.”
Police were called out to the 600 block of Yale Avenue at 7:12 p.m. after a woman called 911 saying she needed help,
“My son’s friend just got shot accidentally,” she said.
The teenage gunman couldn’t be found after the shooting, however, Detectives were able to speak to him Tuesday, Johns said, and he wasn’t overly cooperative.
“We do believe that the gunshot occurred from horseplay. We don’t right now believe it was intentional,” he said.
A pair of adults were in the home when the shooting occurred but said they did not know the teens had a gun.
Please are still trying to figure out how the teens got the gun and who owned it, but one fact is clear, according to Johns,
“That weapon was loaded and they mishandled it and pulled the trigger, and now a young man has lost his life,” he said.
