A 15-year-old in Oakdale, California is being called a hero after rescuing his father who was trapped underneath a truck. According to local media, Matthew Wilkinson was working on his truck’s brakes and asked his son to help him.
At one point Wilkinson slid underneath the truck to get a better angle at the rotor, but when he hit the rotor the truck fell on top of him. He was pinned and due to the weight of the vehicle he couldn’t speak,
“I couldn’t get a good angle, so I slid my body underneath the truck and was hitting it,” he said. “The second it popped off, the truck fell. I know it rolled forward because I saw it roll forward and it fell right on top of me. All I could think about was the breath coming out of me. I was just squished. I couldn’t talk. I couldn’t yell.”
Wilkinson said he didn’t realized until he viewed the surveillance cameras that his son, Dalin, had lifted the truck up enough for him to escape. Wilkinson was taken to the hospital. He suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs and a separated shoulder.
Wilkinson is crediting his son for saving his life.
