A high school senior at Amplus Academy in Las Vegas died “suddenly and unexpectedly” after attending gym class. The family of Jordan Brister said the 18-year-old died “with no explanation as to why,”
Brister was found unresponsive in a school bathroom after suffering a cardiac arrest. According to Brister’s father, Conrad, 25 minutes went by before anyone found him.
By the time he was found, there was nothing emergency personnel could do to save him, according to his family. The public charter school said in its statement that its staff provided Brister with “emergency medical attention” until paramedics arrived.
This is the second student that died suddenly in Clark County, Nevada in a week’s time. 16-year-old Ashari Hughes died after suffering a ‘medical episode’ following a flag football game at Desert Oasis High School on January 5th, according to local media.
In a statement, the public charter school stated its personnel rendered “immediate medical assistance” to Brister until paramedics arrived.
Brister was a senior and planned to join the military after graduating.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office said the exact cause of Brister’s death is still under investigation.
