It happened in Phoenix when police say Fenris Lu broke into the morgue in the middle of the night.
When police arrived they found Lu inside after he smashed a window, forced open a freezer, and accessed the bodies – mostly men – awaiting autopsy.
Surveillance video reportedly captured him committing the acts.
Lu is being charged with:
Four counts of s*xual conduct with a de*d person (Class 4 felonies),
Third-degree burglary,
Criminal damage,
Escape in the second degree, and
Possession of burglary tools.
Lu was combative during booking and did not appear in his initial court hearing.
The commissioner handled part of it outside his cell, calling him a danger to himself and others.
Lu is reportedly a researcher in quantum and computational chemistry, with publications from University of Washington and connections to Arizona State University graduate work.
