A Democrat Representative. is facing calls to be arrested after smuggling an illegal migrant into President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address – Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) then allegedly told his Chief of Staff to hide the illegal in his office – because he was scared the illegal would be detained by authorities.
Critics say Moulton is guilty of smuggling and harboring an illegal migrant sparking the calls for Moulton to be brought up on federal felony charges.
Marcelo Gomes da Silva, a 19-year-old illegal migrant from Brazil, is living in Milford, Massachusetts.
He came into the country legally in 2013, but overstayed his Visa making his presence in the US illegal.
Moulton is a major opponent to President Trump’s deportation operation and border security priorities.
During the address, DHS publicly identified Gomes da Silva on social media as an “illegal alien who has no right to be in our nation,” saying they were going to arrest, and remove him.
After seeing the post, Moulton’s chief of staff, Neesha Suarez, escorted Gomes da Silva out of the House gallery and took him to Moulton’s congressional office to watch the rest of the speech.
Moulton’s office said they made the move “out of an abundance of caution” after the DHS post, which they labeled as “targeting and harassing”
Critics say this is a blatant disregard for federal immigration law, calling for Moulton to face consequences.
It is a felony to smuggle, transport, or harbor illegal aliens, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
