The Obama DOJ accused the officers of racism, charged them with federal crimes and threw them in jail – they are now looking to President Trump for a full pardon.

It happened in 2009 in the working-class town of East Haven, Connecticut.

Officers

Jason Zullo,

John Miller (a sergeant),

David Cari, and

Dennis Spaulding served for the East Haven Police Department.

After Barack Obama took office in 2009 illegal immigration spiked.

These four officers uncovered what they described as a large-scale operation where illegal migrants were using the forged documents to get plat]es, fake car insurance cards, and fake driver’s licenses.

Many of the illegal migrants involved had serious criminal records, and all arrested were illegals.

According to accounts from the officers and their supporters, including the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, the officers made hundreds of arrests tied to this fraud ring.

However, instead of praising the officers for clearing dangerous people off the streets, the Obama DOJ under Attorney General Eric Holder, launched a full investigation into the East Haven Police Department starting in 2009.

In December 2011, the DOJ released findings accusing the department of a “pattern or practice” of discriminatory policing against Latino residents.

Federal prosecutors said officers targeted Latinos because of their ethnicity, not because of evidence of crime.

On January 24, 2012, the FBI arrested the four officers on a federal indictment. The government charged them with conspiring to violate the civil rights of East Haven residents — mostly Latinos — from about 2007 through 2011.

Prosecutors called them part of a “cancerous cadre” of “bullies with badges.”

Critics say this sounds reminiscent of when Obama prosecuted three Navy SEALs from SEAL Team 10 after they captured the Butcher of Fallujah (who literally drilled holes into children’s heads)

Obama then tried to have their trial held in Baghdad, Iraq so an al-Qaeda suspect could personally testify against them.

The officers were charged with:

One count of conspiracy against rights (all four officers)- maximum 10 years in prison.

Use of unreasonable (excessive) force by a law enforcement officer (Miller, Spaulding, Zullo).

Deprivation of rights through arrests without probable cause (Spaulding on two counts, Cari on one).

Obstruction of a federal investigation by preparing false police reports (Spaulding on two counts, Cari on one, Zullo pleaded to one).

They were sentenced in late 2013 and early 2014:

Dennis Spaulding: 5 years (60 months) in federal prison, plus restitution.

David Cari: 30 months in federal prison.

Jason Zullo: 24 months in federal prison.

John Miller: Served time after his guilty plea.

All four were fired from the department. They lost their careers, pensions, reputations, and according to their families, everything they had built.

The officers have never stopped fighting.

They lost appeals. But starting around 2018, they filed paperwork seeking a full pardon from President Trump, arguing the convictions were politically motivated and should be wiped so they can rebuild their lives.
