Hasan Piker said that “we must end the American empire” and if they don’t manage the fall, it will end violently – while asserting “The fall of the USSR was one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century.”
“Empires never die quietly, and we must end the American empire regardless.”
“But we must manage the retreat of a superpower from the world stage.”
“If we do not do this, then the American empire will come to an end in a much more violent way”
Piker was speaking at Yale University in favor of the resolution titled “End the American Empire.” Which passed by the way.
Piker quoted Vladimir Lenin (The red terror) – a Russian Marxist and Mao Zedong – a Chinese communist. Men responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people.
He criticized U.S. bases, attacked ICE, capitalism, and Israel – and compared the Jews to the Nazis.
Fast Facts about the USSR:
🔷️Engineered Famine The Holodomor (1932–1933) in Ukraine killed an estimated 3.5–4 million through deliberate grain seizures, blockades, and export of food while people starved.
🔷️The Kazakh famine (1930–1933) killed 1.3–1.5 million
🔷️Earlier War Communism policies under Lenin contributed to the 1921–22 famine that killed about 5 million.
🔷️The Gulag forced-labor camp system: From the 1930s through the 1950s, 18 million people passed through the camps.
🔷️1.5–1.7 million were k*lled inside from starvation, disease, overwork, and execution.
🔷️The camps extracted gold, timber, and other resources under lethal conditions and were a core tool of political repression.
🔷️The Great Purge / Great Terror (1936–1938): Official NKVD figures record 681,000–800,000 executions.
🔷️The total death toll was 700,000 to 1.2 million.
🔷️Quotas for arrests and shootings were set from Moscow.
Victims included:
🔸️Party officials,
🔸️Military officers,
🔸️Ethnic minorities (especially Poles),
🔸️Intellectuals, and
🔸️Ordinary citizens.
🔷️Mass deportations of entire peoples: Whole ethnic groups were rounded up, loaded onto cattle cars, and dumped in Central Asia or Siberia.
🔷️Hundreds of thousands died in transit or in special settlements.
🔷️Total political deportees across the Soviet period numbered in the millions.
️The Red Terror and early Bolshevik repression (1917–1920s) featured:
🔷️Summary executions, concentration camps, and class-based k*llings
🔷️The Red Terror deaths range from tens of thousands to over a million.
🔷️This established the template for later mass killing.
Total absence of basic freedoms:
🔷️No free speech, free press, independent courts, free elections, or right to emigrate.
🔷️The secret police (Cheka – NKVD – KGB) maintained ubiquitous surveillance, informants, show trials, and psychiatric abuse of dissidents.
🔷️Religion was systematically suppressed;
🔷️Churches, mosques, and synagogues were closed or destroyed, and clergy were imprisoned or executed.
🔷️Katyn massacre (1940): Soviet secret police m*rdered 22,000 Polish officers, intellectuals, and prisoners of war and buried them in mass graves.
🔷️The USSR blamed the Nazis for decades and only admitted responsibility after the regime collapsed.
Economic and human cost of central planning:
🔷️Chronic shortages, low living standards for ordinary people, and repeated policy-driven disasters.
🔷️The system prioritized heavy industry, military power, and the party elite while ordinary citizens faced rationing, housing shortages, and low-quality goods for decades.
Export of the model and satellite repression:
🔷️The USSR imposed communist dictatorships across Eastern Europe after 1945, crushing uprisings in Hungary (1956), Czechoslovakia (1968), and elsewhere.
🔷️It backed or enabled mass k*llings in client states and exported the same methods of one-party rule, secret police, and forced collectivization.
🔷️Over 62 million were k*lled across the entire period
Critics want to know why anyone would quote, or praise leaders of the USSR while mourning its collapse – with Republicans warning Democrats of the dangers of associating someone they describe as a communist.
