The body of a man that was found at a homeless camp in Portland last month is now being investigated as a homicide. Police say 71-year-old Richard Walloch was shot to death at the camp located near a neighborhood.
Walloch was known to frequent businesses in the area and had been reported missing before his death.
Meanwhile officials in New Orleans are looking for a person of interest after finding a woman shot to death in a 7th ward homeless camp. A 35-year-old man was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.
In Oakland a 50-year-old woman was shot in the leg at a homeless camp on the east side by a man police say knew her. Authorities are searching for the suspect and trying to figure out what sparked the shooting.
Many businesses in cities across the nation say that the crime infested homeless camps are negatively impacting their businesses as rampant drug use, sex assaults, and crime make customers and employees fearful.
Residents of neighborhoods near homeless camps say they feel helpless and sometimes resort to moving for the safety of their families
