he mother of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s aide, who said owning a house is a weapon of “white supremacy,” owns a $1.6M house in Tennessee, according to reports
Cea Weaver, appointed by Mamdani as director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants was in the hot seat after her 2019 social media post resurfaced where She said “Private property including any kind of ESPECIALLY homeownership is a weapon of white supremacy masquerading as ‘wealth building’”
According to a report by the New York Post, Weaver’s mother, Celia Applegate—a professor of German studies at Vanderbilt University, owns a 3,400-square-foot home in Nashville, where she lives with her partner David Blackbourn.
The property was purchased in 2012 for $814,000 and is now worth more than $1.6 million, according to real estate records.
When confronted by reporters outside her Brooklyn apartment about her mom’s house, Weaver reportedly became emotional, started crying and left without giving a response.
Critics say her emotional response highlights the fragility of ideological views when confronted with their own personal privilege
