A man rammed his car into a U.S. Capitol Barricade Sunday morning. After the crash, the man got out of the car and started shooting his gun into the air before shooting and killing himself.
Authorities say the man is 29-year-old Richard Aaron York and had a Delaware driver’s license. They also believed he recently lived in Pennsylvania.
It happened at about 4:00 Sunday morning, according to a new release which said York drove into the barricade at East Capitol Street and Second Street. After the man got out of the car it burst into flames. Capitol police immediately responded when they heard gunshots. As police approached, the man shot himself,
“Nobody else was hurt…At this time, it does not appear the man was targeting any Members of Congress, who are on recess, and it does not appear officers fired their weapons.”
Investigators are working to figure out what motivated the attack.
