Mosquitoes have invaded Iceland for the first time in recorded history. Iceland was the last place on Earth that remained mosquito-Free (aside from Antarctica)
Many are now pointing to a Bill Gates funded lab in Columbia that genetically modifies and releases 30-40 million mosquitoes each week into 11 different countries.
Three mosquitoes, two females and one male, were found in a rural area in western Iceland.
Fast Facts:
Bill Gates funds the World Mosquito Program (WMP)
Their facility in Medellín, Colombia, breeds 30-40 million Aedes aegypti mosquitoes per week that they say are infected with Wolbachia bacteria.
They are then released into the wild to mate with local mosquitoes, spreading the bacteria to allegedly block transmission of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.
About 30 million are released each week from the Medellín factory in over 11 countries including Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and others (expanding to Honduras, El Salvador).
They use drones, bikes, and community methods to release them.
These mosquitoes are not the same mosquitoes from Oxitec, which Gates also funds
Experts say that there is no connection to Gates funding a massive mosquito operation in Colombia to the discovery of mosquitoes in Iceland.
They point to climate change as the reason behind the mosquito discovery saying Iceland had record warmth in spring 2025.
