#new Congressman Tim Burchett is calling for the arrest of State Rep. Justin Pearson
Rep. Burchett (R-TN) is demanding the arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment of Pearson, after video shows him threatening and interfering with a state police officer.
In the video Pearson can be seen and heard appearing to verbally threaten the officer while obstructing his duties.
Pearson’s actions, Burchette says, constitute a serious offense under Tennessee law.
Actions that critics point out are opposite of the way he was raised:
Affluent parents, in a
Predominantly white neighborhood where
Pearson talked and acted like his classmates.
His mother earned a doctorate in education, and
He graduated from Bowdoin College in 2017, which is a wealthy, overwhelmingly white liberal arts school in Brunswick, Maine.
He spent part of his teenage years in a prosperous Virginia suburb.
Conservatives say Pearson is the textbook example of a privileged left-wing operator who code-switches for political gain.
They say he attended one of the nation’s most expensive and liberal colleges, and comes from educated, church-going parents yet he shows up shouting like a 1960s radical, while pushing gun control, identity politics, and big-government fixes in Memphis.
Charges Rep. Burchette says Pearson should be hit with.
Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer – which carries penalties of about 1 year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
In some cases, there’s a mandatory minimum 60 days and $10,000, and potential prison time of one to six years.
What do you think? Should Pearson be thrown in jail for his actions? Why or why not?
