#new Rep. Justin Pearson is being called a liar by his peers for insinuating that the Speaker of the House removed him and other Democrats from committees because they are black.
Pearson posting,,
“Speaker of the TN House Cameron Sexton just removed me and every Democrat and therefore every Black elected official in the state legislature from any committee we served on.”
Speaker Sexton removed Democrats in the House from all standing committees and subcommittees after they repeatedly disrupted special sessions on redistricting and caused chaos on the floor. Pearon actually charged a republican, and physically threatened him – while several people yelled at him to stop and tried to pull him away.
Sexton sent a formal letter to House Democratic Leader Karen Camper saying the removals are immediate and will last until the next legislative session in January 2027, for
“disrupting the democratic and legislative processes and creating disorder on the House Floor.”
Pearson and other Democrats tried to stop congressional proceedings while a vote on redistricting was being held.
They linked arms on the House floor, blocked aisles, coordinated with gallery protesters who blasted air horns and used props and earplugs, and generally stopped proceedings.
Critics say this is the same type of ‘insurrection’ that conservatives were accused of carrying out on Jan 6th. – With Pearson’s main objective being disrupting the congressional vote.
