#new The socialist Mayor of Seattle, Katie Wilson, is refusing to investigate nearly $40 million in Somali migrant daycare fraud that was flagged by a state audit, because it’s racist against migrants, Wilson saying
“The fear in the Somali community is real.”
The liberal mayor, who President Trump calls a communist, is refusing to investigate $37 million in daycare subsidy payments , saying that it’s
“not really about fraud” but about “making an immigrant community a target.”
Wilson, who took office in January, dismissed calls for any city-level investigation into the Somali-run centers even as auditors found tens of millions – of the $770 million Child Care and Development Fund program – in missing documents, overbilling, and empty facilities posing as operating daycares
“We’ve had conversations going with the departments and yeah, it’s just I mean I don’t think it needs to be explained why it’s problematic to have random people showing up to daycares.”
“And yeah, I mean I think the fear in the Somali community is real. The fear in immigrant communities are real so we’re taking that very seriously.”
“This whole issue it’s not really about fraud. It’s dividing and conquering. It’s making an immigrant community a target. No reason to assume based on the identity of the daycare operator their small business is doing anything wrong.”
The audit flagged:
Overbilling,
Missing documentation, and
Payments for services that didn’t appear to happen.
These are the same tactics used in the massive fraud cases in Minnesota involving Somali migrants stealing between $9 billion and $18 billion in taxpayer dollars.
Videos showed licensed day care centers receiving money, but their buildings were completely empty.
While Wilson stonewalls any investigation into the daycare fraud, she’s aggressively pushing for a massive new $1.3 billion property tax levy to expand government-run and subsidized childcare
Wilson has zero prior elected experience.
She is a lifelong activist who co-founded the Seattle Transit Riders Union in 2011
She never held a traditional private-sector job.
During her 2025 mayoral campaign, at age 43, she openly admitted her parents were still sending her money to pay bills.
