In 2023, Talarico gave a sermon titled “God Is Not a Christian,” during that sermon he quoted the islamic mystic Rumi

Attorney General Ken Paxton has called Talarico’s theology
“Antithetical to historical Christian views” and “adopted from liberal theology that do not reflect what Scripture says.”
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick adding Talarico has committed “so much blasphemy against the word of God” that “if he doesn’t really come back from that, then he’s going to hell.”
