Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is one of about 19 naturalized migrants currently serving in the U.S. Congress.
None of them has to pass an FBI background investigation or obtain a formal security clearance to view classified documents.
They also aren’t required to tell the public or ethics committees whether they hold citizenship in another country.
Omar’s citizenship is now under federal criminal investigation.
Homeland Security Investigations agents raided her D.C. home on October 12, seizing phones, computers, notebooks, and her passport.
Sources say the investigation focuses on possible false statements about her age or her late father’s naturalization paperwork from 2000.
Omar has called the action political intimidation.
️Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas (Canada) and Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo. (India), were U.S. citizens at birth because they were born to American citizen parents who were out of the country at the time.
