Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis asked the State Legislature to repeal a law that gives Disney World a special status which basically allows the company to operate as a private government.
DeSantis has battled with Disney over the company’s opposition to a new law that prohibits educators from indoctrinating kids ages kindergarten through third grade with gender identity, sexual orientation or sex change ideology.
On Tuesday, as lawmakers returned to the Capitol for a special legislative session on congressional redistricting, Gov. DeSantis issued a proclamation that allows the statehouse to take up bills eliminating Disney’s self-governing district.
At a news conference DeSantis , without mentioning Disney by name, said,
“I am announcing today that we are expanding the call of what they are going to be considering this week. And so, yes they will be considering the congressional map, but they also will be considering termination of all special districts that were enacted in Florida prior to 1968, and that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District,”
The Reedy Creek Improvement District is a private government controlled by Disney World and set up by the state Legislature in 1967 that allows it to provide government services such as zoning, fire protection, utilities and infrastructure.
The move comes after Disney announced that they would do everything they could to repeal the new Parental Rights in Education law,
Recently, video surfaced of Disney executives saying they would do everything possible to inject gay, lesbian and transgender ideology into its theme parks and children’s movies.
