Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) expressed outrage today over the the leak of a draft opinion in the U.S. Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization saying it was done by a “misguided zealot.”
Kennedy is calling for an investigation into the source of the leak saying that,
“The authorities with the Department of Justice should be called in and put the full force and power of their agency to find out who leaked this document and prosecute that person civilly and criminally to the fullest extend of the law.”
Sen. Kennedy then released the following statement on
“Preserving the Supreme Court’s integrity is vital, and this unprecedented leak attacks its independence and legitimacy. For the sake of the court and Americans’ confidence in its independence, a thorough and robust investigation is needed to find and punish the leaker.
As I’ve said many times before, Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and should be reversed. Everyone on either side of this issue should, however, condemn the leak and demand that we hold the leaker accountable.”
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed the authenticity of the leaked draft opinion when he directed the Marshal of the court to launch a full investigation to find out who leaked the draft.
Roberts saying in a statement,
“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the Court will not be affected in any way,” he continued,
“I have directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.”
Leaks from the high court are exceedingly rare and many believe it was done intentionally to spark outrage and protests from the left in an effort to sway the judges to reverse their decision, which is not yet final.
