The wife of a Border Patrol Agent and fourth grade teacher at Robb Elementary School texted her husband for help during the Texas elementary school mass shooting that resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers.
According to a report, Jacob Albarado received the messages from his wife as he was about to get a haircut,
“There’s an active shooter,” she said, “help…I love you.”
Albarado borrowed a shotgun from his barber, then the two raced out of the shop and to Robb Elementary school where his wife and second grade daughter were hiding. His wife was under a desk with her students while his daughter was hiding in a bathroom.
When he arrived to the school, Albarado could see that that an elite tactical team was preparing to take out the shooter, so he quickly coordinated with other officers at the scene to save as many children as possible.
According to the newspaper report Albarado started clearing the classrooms in the wing where his daughter was located. Officers broke windows out of classrooms and lifted the children to safety while other officers stood by providing cover.
He rescued his 8-year-old daughter and continued to save dozens more children while the gunman remained barricaded inside one of the classrooms,
“They were just all hysterical, of course,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Border Patrol tactical team killed the gunman – 18-year-old Salvador Ramos – one hour after he entered the building.
