A high school principal has been arrested and is being charged with more than 30 counts for a sexual relationship he had with a student.
According to police, 34-year-old Roger Weaver Freed started the relationship with a male student seven years ago when the child was in middle school. After a couple of years, they say, the relationship turned sexual, continued through out high school and after graduation.
Investigators say that the student and the Pennsylvania high school principal started getting close after the student experienced a death in the family and started leaning on Freed for emotional support. That relationship expanded to time spent outside of school with Freed giving the student rides so they could have ‘one-on-one’ conversations.
According to the affidavit the student said he looked at Freed like an ‘older brother’ and ‘trusted’ him.
The relationship turned sexual in 2017 with Freed asking the student not to tell anyone for fear of losing his job.
Freed said to the student, “You promise not to tell anybody?” and “I could lose my job over this,” while massaging the student’s shoulders, the affidavit said.
The two engaged in sexual activity four to five times a week over the next two years while the student was in high school and continued as the student started college.
Freed was arrested and released after posting a $175,000. He will be under supervised released and required to wear an ankle monitor.
According to court documents, Freed has been charged with 30 counts of sexual intercourse and contact with a student, one count of sexual assault, one count of aggravated indecent assault, one count of corruption of a minor and three misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
He has been suspended with pay.
