China announced overnight that Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng urgently summoned Nicholas Burns, the US Ambassador to China, in response to Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, according to reports.
The Chinese government says that they will not sit idly by while Pelosi conducts an extremely vicious visit that will lead to grave consequences.
After Pelosi landed at Taipei’s Songshan Airport, five Chinese departments publicly condemned the visit that they say infringes on China’s sovereignty.
Xie said the US must ‘pay the price’ for allowing Pelosi to make a visit that damages the relationship between China and the U.S. and also intensifies the tension in the Taiwan Straits.
According to Global times, China is preparing to take ‘necessary and resolute countermeasures’ against the visit.
In fact, on Tuesday night the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) began conducting military drills including missile drills near the island, and ‘live fire’ exercises.
Pelosi further exacerbated the situation by tweeting out “America stands with Taiwan” after she touched down in Taiwan.

That departure now in question as some note that the PLA military drills are being conducted in six regions surrounding the island, which could put at risk the safety of Pelosi’s US Air Force-operated plane.
