Thieves Drill Holes In Gas Tanks, Steal Fuel From Fans Watching Baseball Games

Fans in Colorado left Rockies baseball games only to find that someone had drilled a hole in their gas tanks and stolen their fuel.

Dozens of fans in recent months parked their vehicles in RTD park and ride lots in different locations in Denver, only to return to their cars to see the damage and empty fuel tank.

In addition to Denver, Police in Colorado Springs say they’ve seen a huge spike in these same type of cases… Thieves stealing gas from parked cars.

Many are calling on both RTD and the local police to do something about it,

“It doesn’t feel like it’s an expensive fix. There’s something broken in terms of the coordination around just employing some simple steps, installing some cameras up in the air. I think that would be a huge deterrent.”

That statement comes from a victim who did not want to be identified.

However, according to a statement from RTD security cameras are already in place,

“RTD Transit Police received this customer’s report on Sunday. There are 32 security cameras located at Central Park Station. RTD continues to work with local law enforcement agencies to deter and combat criminal activity at RTD property. RTD encourages customers to download the free Transit Watch app on iOS and Android to directly report suspicious and criminal activity to RTD Transit Police.”
