Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Says ‘White People Are Ignorant And Complicit’

#News The Democrat running for governor of Georgia said that White people across America are ignorant and complicit and they need to admit it.

“But I think in the same way, white people across America are unapologetically able to say, I am ignorant, and perhaps I am complicit.” Keisha Lance Bottoms made the comments on the Oprah Winfrey Network special in 2020. The interview is resurfacing as she is making her bid to become governor of a state

The special was taped after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis and focused on so-called White privilege. “For the first time in my lifetime, Black people across America are able to unapologetically say, we are angry, and we are frustrated, and we are hurting. But I think in the same way, White people across America are unapologetically able to say, I am ignorant, and perhaps I am complicit.”

“And I think for all of the hurt and pain and agony that’s gone into where we are in this moment in time, I think that is the silver lining, that we get to have open conversations about what White privilege means.” Georgia has about 5.46 million White residents who are not Hispanic, which is 48.8% of the state, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. If you include Hispanics, there are 6,52 million people, or 58.3%. Critics want to know how many White people will vote for Bottoms in the gubernatorial race, when she thinks they need to admit they are ignorant and complicit because of their ‘White privilege.’ Republicans say Atlanta was more dangerous when Bottoms was Mayor Garrison Douglas, Rick Jackson’s spokesman (Republican nominee for governor of Georgia), said those who lived through that period agree Bottoms “was a disaster as mayor of Atlanta,”  A Jackson ad titled “Disaster” began airing statewide on Sept. 10, 2026. It uses Atlanta residents describing that summer. One says, “My house was personally shot up.”

At the Oct. 6 town hall, Jackson pivoted a public-safety question into this line: “I will never ever abandon you by pulling out police when you need the protection the most.”  Bottoms’ record:

🔷Atlanta recorded 157 homicides in 2020, the most since 1996, then 158 in 2021.

🔷On June 12, 2020, Rayshard Brooks, 27 was shot after he violently attacked police officers, and took their taser. Bottoms turned on the officer, called for him to be fired and allegedly forced Police Chief Erika Shields to resign the next day.

🔷Rolfe’s firing was later reversed.

🔷On May 5, 2021, the Atlanta Civil Service Board reinstated him with back pay, finding he “was not afforded his right to due process.”

🔷In the four days from June 17 to June 20, 2020, about 170 officers called in sick.

🔷On the night of June 19, every officer failed to report in Zone 5.

🔷Citywide arrests dropped 71% during the sickout.

Critics said it was due to low morale and backlash to Bottoms’ opposition to the police and refusal to support law enforcement.

(Eight officers were criminally charged in two incidents.)

Should a candidate who described White Americans as ignorant and complicit be the next governor of Georgia?
