This was days after she had strangled 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan to de*th with an exercise band.
Hospital staff say she used a whiteboard to ask the question, because she was still intubated.

Prosecutors say this is proof she had clear-headed awareness and was engaging in self-preservation right after she m*rdered her kids.
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague told the court:
🟧On Friday, January 27, 2023, “using an erasable whiteboard because she was still temporarily intubated, one of the first questions that Lindsay Clancy asked was, ‘Do I need an attorney?’”

🟧Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Jhilam Biswas, who was working the consult liaison service at Brigham and Women’s, evaluated Clancy on January 26, 2023.
🟧Clancy remained intubated and could not speak, so she wrote on paper.
🟧I asked how she felt, and she wrote “Horrified.”
🟧She then wrote “Do I have an attorney?”
🟧She also asked whether her body was broken, whether her legs were straight, whether she could have visitors, and where her family was.
Biswas testified Clancy was coherent and said she did not observe any signs of psychosis like responding to voices, disorganized thinking, or paranoia.
Trauma surgical ICU nurse Rachelle Amedee, who cared for Clancy starting January 24, 2023, testified that:
🟧On February 2 – after Clancy had been extubated – Clancy wanted to talk to her lawyer.
🟧Amedee wrote it in the nursing records because it was the first time Clancy had said anything about the case – and it was about an attorney and not her kids.
Amedee sent a consult to the social worker to arrange contact.
Prosecutors say Clancy’s focus on an attorney proves that she did not suffer a total mental collapse and was interested in herself and not her kids.
She did not inquire about if any one of them survived, if so, how they were doing, or anything regarding her children. She focused on her attorney and herself.
Within 48 hours of strangling her children to de*th, Clancy was coherent enough to express horror, ask about her injuries, and inquire about legal representation.

Prosecutors say that is not the behavior of someone with psychosis; it is the behavior of someone who understood what she had done and was already looking to her own defense.
Critics are asking…..was asking about a lawyer (as one of the first thoughts of a mother who had just killed her children) a sign of mental collapse? Or of someone already calculating how to survive the consequences?
